Formerly part of many different "empires" Bangladesh seeded from India in 1947 as East Pakistan and became an independent nation in 1970 celebrating its National Day on the 26th March. Bangladesh joined the Commonwealth in 1972.
Over the years Bangladesh has suffered many trials and tribulations not the least being that it is the most densely populated country on Earth with around 2,500 people for every square mile.
