Antigua and Barbuda are former British Colonies and form part of the Leeward Island chain of the Bahamas. Given almost all-year-round summer the islands are an attractive tourist destination and are becoming increasingly popular, it's lucky that they are almost surrounded by so many white sandy beaches that seclusion can still be easily found.

The Islands became an independent state on 1st November 1981 and joined the Commonwealth in the same year. The capital is St. John's.
